JAÑELLE BARNES, LMSW, Therapy Associate
Approach to Therapy
Jañelle earned a dual Master’s degree in Social Work and Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University, Chester, PA, 2020. These degrees equip her to address, topics relating to sex and sexuality. Topics such as intimacy concerns, sexual dysfunctions, sexual abuse and trauma, and issues of sexual identity in the LGBTQ+ communities. Jañelle’s approach to therapy is strengths-based & systemic. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), a trauma-informed therapy. This combination of perspectives and methods allows her to privilege her clients’ power and hold space for their pain and hurts while also taking into account their early & current contexts. Jañelle aims to create a safe and warm environment in which clients feel secure in their strengths, and comfortable challenging themselves.
Jañelle is a second-generation Multicultural Black American, born to a Jamaican mother and a Mexican Dutch-Caribbean father. She is young in her walk as a 7th day Adventist, a faith that opens her mind to a holistic, and whole-person approach to therapy.
